I would like to introduce you to a special friend of mine, I met this friend at a very low point in my life. I was disillusioned with relationships at the time, and feeling very lonely and misunderstood. I think we all feel that way at times, we build relationships and enjoy the company of friends and family, but it is all too easy to cause our friends and family grief, by our actions or speech, or for others to cause us pain by a betrayal of trust, or worse withdraw their affection without any explanation.
What if it was possible to be in a relationship with a friend who you could trust to be by your side in good times, and in the very sad and lonely days. Someone who desired to be with you just as much as you wanted to be with them. It is a wonderful feeling to know that you are loved and accepted, and nothing that you say will be misunderstood but you will enjoy sweet fellowship and a peace that our hearts search for.
A key ingredient to this friendship is realising that there is a very big difference between being religious, a church goer, a do gooder, or obeying a set of rules, or having a deep personal experience with the living God. You have probably guessed by now, my friend is Jesus, and before you stop reading, just consider, I might be onto something you haven’t thought much about.
I have called my blog “Faith for hurting hearts” because the love relationship I enjoy is all about faith, believing that Jesus came into our world, to search us out. He actually came to be our forever friend.
I am very blessed to have a few very close friends, whom I do trust and share life with, but it is Jesus whom I am closest to. When I read the Bible I find that God loves me but he also loves you just as much. It becomes our choice as to whether we will open up our hearts to receive the faith God will give us to become his very own.
Here is just an example of the healing words we find in the Bible. In Ephesians Chapter 2 verse 8 it tells us we have been saved by grace and this is not from yourselves but it is the gift of God. So God gives us the gift to believe. Our faith grows over time when we read his word, and in Romans 10 verse 17 it says our faith comes by hearing that is, hearing the good news about Christ.
This is what I have discovered as I take the path God has chosen for me, I learn that God’s people are not exempt from troubles and trials, but we are given grace to go through them one day at a time. We are also promised that God will be with us as we obey his word. It is not a list of rules but his laws he writes on our hearts, and as we talk to to him we come to know him more and more. May I invite you to meet my friend, his name is Jesus, and he loved us so much he was willing to give his life as a sacrifice for our wrong doing, by death on a cross, and in doing so gives all who will believe in him the gift of eternal life. God bless.
