Elliott calls out to me from next door “Hello Neighbour” and I smile because there is something about a little boys innocent greeting that lightens up the day. He is a friendly little man, much like his dad who came to offer his help when my husband was rushed off to hospital with an allergic reaction. That offer of a cup of coffee as the ambulance drove away, was just what I needed, but more than that his act of kindness, enabled me to talk, to settle down, and even laugh, as Elliott played with his toys. Billee, his mum took my arrival in her stride, and made way for me to sit down and relax. They are relatively new neighbours, and we were happy when they moved in, I sensed life as we knew it would change forever and it has.
The big yellow truck that my son had enjoyed playing with as a little fellow, has a new owner now. I gave it to Elliott on his birthday and told him about my little boy that was all grown up. He asked a few questions, as 3 years olds do, then put out his arms to take hold of my gift that held so many memories, and promises that had not come to pass. At once I felt a relief and pleasure, that now in this little boy’s arms there would be a new future and happiness, not only for Elliott but for me too.
Just yesterday I came to understand that our hearts can mend if we have the knowledge to put into practice some principals that work. Not many of us have ever been taught to look after ourselves and protect our emotional health. We know a lot about our physical health but when it comes to broken hearts, we know very little.
I realized my mind and my thoughts have been the greatest bully I have known. I have ruminated over and over the actions of others that have contributed to the pain of a broken heart.
We don’t need to continue to allow that to happen. When we pray and ask God for help to recover from hurt and pain, he takes us seriously, and sometimes he provides knowledge, from those who have studied and I am so grateful to a man I listened to yesterday by the name of Guy Winch in his talk called “Why we all need to practice emotional First Aid” God uses many ways and people to bring healing. Everything good comes from him and he has the ability to make all things available to us.
This scripture came to me this morning from 2nd Peter Chapter 1 verse 5 which says” in view of all this, make every effort to respond to God’s promises, supplement your faith with a generous provision of moral excellence with knowledge and knowledge with self control, with patient endurance and patient endurance with godliness, and godliness with brotherly affection and brotherly affection with love for everyone”
I saw a wp template on http://www.nuttythemes.com which would look a lot better on your blog. At the moment this theme doesn’t make your site look that great in my opinion. Please correct me if I’m wrong.. what do you think?
